Little & Associates Architects is the nation's 22nd largest architecture and engineering firm. Founded in 1964, Little & Associates Architects goes beyond traditional A&E services to provide clients with total facilities solutions. The FM Strategies division of Little & Associates Architects is a unique, multi-disciplined facility planning and management group that works with customers to develop a strategic direction for their real estate and facility holdings. Created 9 years ago, FM Strategies provides major corporate and institutional customers a wide variety of real estate and facility services, including computer-aided facility management (CAFM), strategic and tactical facility planning and project management and implementation.

Methodology

Project Planning

• The appropriate team must be assembled, clear direction established, and a proven road map developed. It is recommended that a Stakeholders Meeting take place early in the process that allows all key parties a voice in developing the project goals and objectives. This is also a good method for educating the consultants on background issues and any project constraints.

Survey Methodology

• There are a variety of surveying methods including electronic surveys, mail surveys, personal and team interviews, as well as telephone interviews. Surveys can include just a sampling of the target audience or comprehensive. The goals and objectives of the project as well as the environment of the target audience will help determine the type of methodology best suited for each effort.

Survey Development

• Asking the right questions is the best way to assure a successful and meaningful survey effort. The key issues identified by the client must be addressed and the questions must take into consideration the culture and business climate of each group surveyed. Appropriate consideration must also be given to developing adequate instructions and a cover letter that will solicit a high rate of response.

Dissemination and Data Collection

• How a survey is implemented will depend a great deal on the selected survey methodology. Careful attention must be paid to reaching all of the addressees selected for the effort. The survey team will manage both the dissemination and collection efforts as well as the compilation of survey data. The ability to analyze the collected data can be greatly enhanced if the survey provides enough compartmentalized information to allow for cataloging in a database that can be queried a variety of ways.

Data Analysis

• In addition to compiling and organizing the statistical data gathered, the project team will analyze the information based off of the objectives stated in the early phases of the project. The team will look for trends in such things as performance, cross-team correlations, organization growth/contraction, major service gaps, etc. These results will be compiled to form a comprehensive set of statistics and recommendations as directed.

Reporting

• The method of delivery of the final results will take the most appropriate and use friendly form and may include raw statistics, graphs, trend charting, and business recommendations.
