(Mid Level)

Responsibilities: Assists a supervisor instructing employees, answering questions, and distributing, balancing and checking work; may make suggestions on appointments, promotions, performance and reassignments. Maintains, and oversees the maintenance of general or subsidiary ledgers involving a major portion of an agency's fiscal activities. Maintains, controls, and oversees the performance of balancing operations for a major portion of an agency's accounting system. Prepares and/or oversees the preparation of fiscal statements and reports. Undertakes special studies such as time, cost, or price determinations. Oversees the preparation of payrolls, pre-auditing functions, and various other related accounting and clerical accounting activities. Assists in developing, modifying and installing accounting systems. Prepares analysis of expenditures and monthly report of operations, quarterly request for allotments, financial statements, schedules and statistical data.

Education/Experience: Must have a minimum of five years of experience and demonstrated capability to produce, construct, analyze, and disseminate complex data for special projects, research or other means.

(Senior Level)

Responsibilities: Supervises and evaluates the work of subordinates; recommends personnel actions related to selection, disciplinary procedures, performance, leaves, grievances, work schedules and assignments; administers personnel policies and procedures. Directs and reviews the work of general and budgetary accounting, contracts and federal aid, payroll, auditing. Plans, directs, and/or participates in the maintenance of a specialized accounting system such as a large investment program or cost accounting system; directs preparation of periodic balances and reports, preparation and distribution of checks, and related activities. Directs the compilation of financial data necessary for annual and other reports requested by department, other state, and federal officials; prepares special reports. Provides professional advice to subordinates in the resolution of difficult accounting problems and answers inquiries from other departmental personnel concerning accounting procedures and policies. Conducts studies and surveys of the accounting system; develops recommendations for modifications and revisions; directs the installation of accounting procedures and forms. Formulates and prepares operating and special program budgets, monitors expenditures and negotiates for approval of budgetary adjustments. Interprets and assures compliance with appropriate federal, state and departmental laws, rules and regulations and standards in the areas of budgeting, accounting and reporting. Writes and disseminates written instruction manuals and procedures relating to budgeting, accounting and reporting.
